Below is a message from Charles Paterson who, until recently, was Music Director of BLCS.

He has now moved to the Isle of Wight and, as you will see from his message, is settling in to the musical life of the island! It certainly looks as if he will be kept busy!

Here we have settled in well, thanks, and have enjoyed a wonderful summer finding lots of places to see and things to do. I am gradually getting involved in musical life: apart from our season tickets for the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra (mostly amateur, but very high standard) and The West Wight Arts Association (professional) chamber music seasons, I am now MD of a small choir, Cantus Vesperi, who sing Choral Evensong at churches across the island, and have applied for the vacant MDship of the Orpheus Singers, a choral society not unlike BLCS! I also have a couple of Sunday service organ playing bookings in the next month or two, so things are moving.

A message from Liz Muller, publicity officer for Charnwood Voices.

I am pleased to announce that the Charnwood Voices’ seventh annual Come and Sing workshop in January 2019 will be choruses from Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle.

Rossini was the John Rutter of his time: his Petite Messe Solennelle is neither “petite” nor “solennelle” - but one of the most exciting and entertaining Choral works of the 19th century!

The workshop is on Saturday 12th January 2019 at Trinity Methodist Church Centre, Royland Rd, Loughborough and will be led by Nicholas Scott-Burt. It will start with registration at 10am, finishing with a performance at 5.30pm. The cost will be £15 per person (£10 for any singer aged 18 or under) and includes a loaned copy of the score, tea/coffee at lunchtime, and tea & cake in the late afternoon break

Unlike the last two years, the copies will be library copies and cannot be purchased on the day. If you wish to buy your own copy in advance, please make sure it is the RICORDI vocal score ISBN 9790570021024. It is currently in print and there are also several secondhand copies available on Ebay and Amazon.

As ever, booking will be essential and the application forms will be available in October/November and, if you have received this e-mail direct, you will automatically be e-mailed a copy. Copies will also be available on our website www.charnwoodvoices.org.uk.
